Rules and Reviews

What Rules Do We Use?

Each League is responsible to establish in writing what rules they will follow.

The majority of the Washington Youth leagues follow NFHS rules and/or USA Lacrosse rules, depending on the age group.

Please refer to your specific league guidelines for clarification on which rules apply.

Faceoffs 2022

WHSBLA events will be using the "Standing Neutral Grip" guidelines as outlined by the 2022 NFHS- Boy's Lacrosse rules, specifically Rule 4-3-3.

Youth Leagues should relay to officials what their expectations are.

The important parts of the new rules regarding faceoffs are:

  • Players shall remain standing during the faceoff until the whistle blows
  • All fingers of both hands shall rest on the ground
  • The hand closer to the throat shall be in the palm-up position

Also note new guidelines regarding making contact with the faceoff players when coming in from the Wing Line, rule 4-3-3i and 4-4-2.

The important part of the new rule regarding wing players is:

  • Wing players must avoid body-checking the faceoff players battling for the ball
